Πρόκειται για μία μνημειακή κρήνη συγκαιρινή με την ρωμαϊκή αγορά και συνδέεται με τα έργα υποδομής της περιόδου (τέλη 2ου αρχές 3ου μ. Χ αιώνα) που έγιναν στην πόλη. Η κρήνη βρίσκεται στην νοτιοανατολική γωνία του μεγάλου συμπλέγματος δημοσιων κτηρίων. Αυτό το σύνολο περιλαμβάνει την πολιτική αγορά, το τμήμα που είναι ανασκαμενο μεταξύ των οδών Φιλίππου και Ολύμπου, την εμπορική αγορά που τέμνονταν με την Εγνατία. Βρίσκεται στη συμβολή Εγνατίας και Μητροπολίτου Γενναδίου. Το κρηναίο είναι κατά το ήμισυ εξάγωνο και στεγαζόταν με αψίδα που κατέληγε σε τριγωνικό αετωμα. Στον χώρο όπου έρρεε το νερό υπήρχε μια περιφραγμένη με μαρμαρινα θωράκια δεξαμενή, πάνω από αυτή βρισκόταν ζώνη με γλυπτά μέσα από τα οποία έβγαινε το νερό. Το μνημείο καταδεικνυει τη διαχρονικότητα του σταυροδρομίου αυτού, της ίδιας της Εγνατίας και μπορεί να αποτελέσει ένα σύνολο μαζί με το κρηναίο που ανακαλύφθηκε πρόσφατα κατά την κατασκευή του Σταθμού Αγίας Σοφίας του Μετρό της Θεσσαλονίκης, το οποίο και θα αναδειχθεί στη θέση του με την ολοκλήρωση των εργων. Αμφότερα βρίσκονται σε σημεία που τέμνονταν η Decumanus Maximus με μία Cardo έχοντας τον ίδιο προσανατολισμό κι αντίστοιχη μνημειακότητα. Πρόσφατα στο Ρωμαϊκό Κρηναίο στην Εγνατία έγιναν εργασίες συντήρησης του πεζοδρομίου κι οι περαστικοί μπορούν να θαυμάσουν με ασφάλεια το μνημείο. The fountain building on Egnatia Street in front of the Ottoman bath Bey Hammam is of great topographical importance. It is a monumental fountain contemporary with the Roman market and is associated with the infrastructure works of the period (late 2nd early 3rd AD) that took place in the city. The fountain is located in the southeast corner of the large complex of public buildings. This whole includes the political market, the section that is excavated between Filippou and Olympou streets, the commercial market that intersected with Egnatia. It is located at the junction of Egnatia and Metropolitan Gennadi. The fountain is half hexagonal and was covered with an arch that ended in a triangular gable. In the area where the water flowed, there was a tank fenced with marble shields, above which was a zone with sculptures through which the water came out. The monument demonstrates the timelessness of this crossroads, of Egnatia itself and can be a whole together with the fountain that was recently discovered during the construction of Agia Sofia Metro Station in Thessaloniki, which will stand out in its place with the completion of works. Both are located at points where the Decumanus Maximus intersected with a Cardo having the same orientation and corresponding monumentality. Recently in the Roman Fountain in Egnatia, sidewalk maintenance works were carried out and passers-by can safely admire the monument.
L	Lampros Vaslleiou on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Στο βόρειο πεζοδρόμιο της Εγνατίας οδού (της σημερινής, που διατηρεί την ίδια ακριβώς χάραξη με την παλιά που βρίσκεται αρκέτα μέτρα από κάτω της), νοτίως του Μπέη Χαμάμ / Λουτρά Παράδεισος, σε βαθύτερο επίπεδο και σε άμεση γειτνίαση με την παλιά κεντρική λεωφόρο της πόλης, την Decumanus Maximus, της οποίας τμήματα ανασκάφτηκαν κατά τη διάνοιξη του μετρό (Σταθμός Βενιζέλου και Σταθμός Αγίας Σοφίας), είναι απολύτως ορατά (αν χαμηλώσεις το βλέμμα), τα κατάλοιπα πολυτελούς κρήνης που χρονολογείται από τα τέλη του 4ου αιώνα μ.Χ. Ήταν διώροφη κατασκευή, σχήματος Π με ανοιχτά και επικαμπτόμενα σκέλη. Στον κάτω της όροφο υπήρχε ανοιχτή δεξαμενή με υδροροές για την παροχή νερού. Επάνω ήταν τέσσερις περίτεχνα διακοσμημένοι πεσσοί που ακουμπούσαν σε τοίχο, πιθανώς με κόγχες για την τοποθέτηση αγαλμάτων. Από την επιγραφή, ό,τι έχει απομείνει …ΚΑΙ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΤΟ ΕΡΓΟΝ Ο ΕΝΔΟΞΟΤΑΤΟΣ… θα μαθαίναμε το όνομα του χρηματοδότη του Μνημείου αλλά δυστυχώς δεν σώθηκε (Πηγή: Θεσσαλονίκη, η Κρυμμένη πόλη, εκδ. της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων, 2012) On the north sidewalk of Egnatia Odos (today, which retains the exact same layout as the old one that is several meters below it), south of Bey Hamam / Loutra Paradisos, at a deeper level and in the immediate vicinity of the old main avenue of the city , the Decumanus Maximus, parts of which were excavated during the opening of the metro (Venizelos Station and Agia Sofia Station), are fully visible (if you look down), the remains of a luxurious fountain dating from the end of the 4th century AD.
