β β β β β A must visit museum while you are in Santorini. I believed some of the best artifacts from ancient Thira were in the National Archeological Museum in Athens but I was wrong.
An impressive collection of discoveries from Akrotiri including statues, vases and implements but the best are hidden in the basement in a temperature and light controlled environment. Stunning wall paintings from almost 4,000 years ago before they were buried in the devastating volcanic eruption.

β β β β β Good modern museum, right now during Corona restrictions nice and quiet when you go for a look, they only let a maximum number of people in. You can buy a all in one ticket at the counter which lets you visit three musea for one price. Which is a nice offer as a single ticket is only a little bit cheaper, even if you visit just two musea it's worth it.

β β β β β It's not big, but seeing the wall murals, pottery detail and the small gold donkey was worth it. We went to akrotiri first, then to the museum ... seemed like a reasonable order.

β β β β β This is such a great museum! The ceramics are from 17th Century BC and theyβre still in such impeccable shape. The frescos are so vivid and unique, and the art style is so distinct to ancient Thera. Truly amazing colors and motifs. Well worth the stop for any history buff!
