V	Vio Ja on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eine zufällige Entdeckung bzw Empfehlung der gleichnamigen Bar in Ierissos und auf jeden Fall für jeden Besucher von Ierissos und Umgebung ein Muss. Mitten im Zentrum, ganz unscheinbar befindet sich diese Nekropole (Totenstadt, aus dem altgriechischen νεκρός nekros "Toter" und πόλις polis "Stadt"). Es handelt sich hierbei um eine kleine Fläche, die den Friedhof des antiken Akanthos zum Vorschein bringt und der zeitlich vom 6 Jh. v.Chr. bis in die römische Zeit reicht. Das antike Akanthos ist im Jahr 1932 durch ein starkes Erdbeben komplett zerstört worden. Der Eintritt ist frei und man hält einen guten Einblick in die Begräbniszeremonien der vergangenen Zeiten. Einige freigelegte Funde, Sarkophage, Einäscherungsplätze, Amphoren, Krüge, Figuren, Skelette, allgemeine Grabbeigaben uvm sind für den Besucher zu bestaunen. Viele der Ausgrabungsstücke sind im Museum in Poligiros zu sehen. Im übrigen wurden schon damals Haustiere begraben. Hinweistafeln sind mit detaillierten Informationen versehen und stehen in englischer Sprache zur Verfügung. Ein Abstecher, der sich lohnt, denn Ierissos hat auch einen wunderschönen Strand zu bieten ?. Ich persönlich finde es großartig, dass solche Stätten ohne Eintritt zugänglich sind. A chance discovery or recommendation of the bar of the same name in Ierissos and definitely a must for every visitor to Ierissos and the surrounding area. In the middle of the center, quite inconspicuously, is this necropolis (city of the dead, from the ancient Greek νεκρός nekros "dead" and πόλις polis "city"). This is a small area that reveals the cemetery of ancient Akanthos and which dates from the 6th century BC. goes back to Roman times. Ancient Akanthos was completely destroyed by a strong earthquake in 1932. Entry is free and you can get a good look at the funeral ceremonies of the past. Some uncovered finds, sarcophagi, cremation places, amphorae, jugs, figures, skeletons, general grave goods and much more can be admired for the visitor. Many of the excavation pieces can be seen in the museum in Poligiros. Incidentally, pets were buried even then. Information boards are provided with detailed information and are available in English. A detour that is worthwhile, because Ierissos also has a wonderful beach ?. Personally, I think it's great that such sites are accessible without admission.
