If you’re into exploring ruins while overlooking great views, this is for you. The site is massive and one can see the remains of what feels like an entire stone city around the castle.

You need good walking shoes here but when you walk around the views of the mountains and the sea below are spectacular, no camera will do the views justice, it truly is breathtaking. Try not to go when the sun is at it hottest and take plenty of water. It takes about an hour in total to do a slow walk round and up to the top and back.

Okay, the acropolis is in tatters. That's what happens when it doesn't get lived in for hundreds of years. However, it's worth seeing the walls that are still standing, and the views over modern Sami are stunning. There are tiles from the roofs of the buildings during the ancient period all over the place, the amount of them at times was extraordinary. Having a fair bit of archaeological knowledge tells me that this really was a substantial site. Happily there aren't crowds of people there, so you can take your time to get the best shots in, and to just soak up the atmosphere.

Very ancient ruins ar the top of a hill. We walked around them but it is best considered as an undeveloped area now.

If you're looking for hillwalking it's quite pretty, the ruins are pretty dismal for non-historians. Worth a visit at sunset for the views though

Very well-preserved Cyclopean walls, despite all the earthquakes! You can walk around the walls with a bit of climbing. Around halfway you will see the old wall running down the hill towards the old harbor, which is modern Sami.

Very difficult to find as signposted from the road but no footpath sign or car park. We walked across a field and just fell apon it. The ruins are ok, not much to look at, more a pile of stones. However the views of Sami and ithica from the top are amazing. There was no one else there, not really a tourist attraction (which we enjoyed)

Google maps tried to say you can drive all the way which isn't true. You can park up on the main road and need to walk up to the ruins. The walk is short and not steep and 100% worth it. Absolutely stunning from the top. There was no one else up there and was quiet, peaceful and a hidden gem.
