Στο χώρο της Εφορείας Καπνού και του ναού της Αγίας Τριάδας, στην ομώνυμη συνοικία πίσω από τη Λαχαναγορά, υπήρχε κατά το πρώτο ήμισυ του 17ου αι. η ορθόδοξη μονή καλογραιών, της Παναγίας της Ακρωτηριανής, μετόχι της Μονής Τοπλού (Σητείας). Κατά την Τουρκοκρατία, οι Τούρκοι κατεδάφισαν τη μονή και έκτισαν στρατώνα που με το χρόνο απέκτησε άλλες χρήσεις. Τελευταία χρησιμοποιήθηκε ο χώρος ως Καπνοκοπτήριο, ενώ σήμερα το υπάρχον κτίριο αναστηλώνεται από τη 13η Εφορεία Βυζαντινών Αρχαιοτήτων και πρόκειται να στεγάσει το βυζαντινό Μουσείο.

In the area of the Ephorate of Tobacco and the Church of the Holy Trinity, in the homonymous district behind Lachanagora, it existed during the first half of the 17th century. the Orthodox convent of the nun, Panagia Akrotiriani, Metochi of Toplou Monastery (Sitia). During the Turkish occupation, the Turks demolished the monastery and built a barracks that gained other uses over time. The site was last used as a Tobacco Factory, and today the existing building is being restored by the 13th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities and is intended to house the Byzantine Museum.
