Beautiful, stunning gorge, it is really worth the hike. Make sure you have good hiking shoes or sandals, and wear a swim suit underneath. You will come across some beautiful, cool, clear pools created by the river and it's a perfect way to cool down. Once you made it up to the village of Pefki, enjoy a wonderful meal at the tavern Piperia - the food is amazing and the view onto the sea is beautiful.

The gorge is wonderful, albeit not entirely easy to find - I relied on google maps and a bit of common sense. Bring a lot of water and sturdy boots - you don't want to risk turning your ankle in such a rugged spot. ☆IMPORTANT☆ ☆IMPORTANT☆ one of the steps of the two staircases is broken, which I discovered when I nearly fell. The steps are otherwise sturdy and structurally sound but do be aware of the bad step.

YouTube - Just Birnie A beautiful circular gorge walk and if you really wanted to with some organising...you could walk from the church above Pefki Village all the way to the sea

Frist part of this gorge is not special. The second part when the rocks start is a lot better and nice to see. Arrows around the place show how you can walk. In the middle there was a smal waterfall and some water. Its a easy trial to walk.

I was lucky to visit three gorges while in Eastern Crete and I can easily admit that this one was my favourite. The forest inside the gorge is marvellous, I was busy creating images in my mind about all the fairies and the magical creatures that reside within it! A must visit, the best one of its kind!

What a beautiful place take strong shoes and plenty of water. We entered the gorge from pefki village and walked down through the gorge. The path is mostly well marked by painted arrows on rocks and trees and wooden signs

Absolutely beautiful! The views are spectacular. We got up early to do this to avoid full sun/heat. Bring lots of water and a picnic. We stayed about a mile down the street, so we walked to the trailhead, I don't recall the parking situation. Wearing boots that cover ankles might be a good idea if you are someone that requires extra support on uneven terrain. Such an awesome hike!
