★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This circular pedestal once supported the bronze statue of Athena Hygieia. In its inscription, it mentions the double dedication of a small shrine to Athena Hygieia as patroness of health and Hygieia, the daughter of the god of medicine Asklepeios. Asklepeios had his temple just down the southern slope next to the Theater of Dionysus.
