Στα Βελανίδια, πάνω από το χωριό θα δείτε γαντζωμένο στον βράχο τον κατάλευκο Αϊ Γιάννη, ένα μικρό εκκλησάκι που στέκεται σιωπηλό και αγναντεύει το πέλαγος, πιο κάτω σώζεται απομεινάρι τμήματος τοίχου μεσαιωνικών χρόνων που χρησίμευε ως προστατευτικό των κατοίκων από επιδρομές στα χρόνια της Πειρατείας. Η διαδρομή είναι εύκολη και διαρκεί περίπου δέκα λεπτά ξεκινώντας από τον αμαξωτό δρόμο και προχωρώντας στο τσιμεντοστρωμένο μονοπάτι η θέα σου κόβει την ανάσα και σου δίνει μια καταπληκτική προοπτική του οικισμού. Φτάνοντας λίγο πιο πάνω από την μέση της διαδρομής συναντάμε το τμήμα από το τοίχος και την μόνη δίοδος προς το εκκλησάκι, θα τολμούσαμε να το πούμε μικρή Μονεμβασιά όχι βέβαια με την έννοια της καστροπολιτείας αλλά της ...μόνης εμπασιάς... που και σε αυτήν την περίπτωση καθιστούσε την εισβολή ιδιαίτερα δύσκολη λόγο του απότομου βράχου που το καθιστά απροσπέλαστο από άλλο σημείο, στο τέλος του μονοπατιού συναντάμε την σιδερόπορτα που μας χωρίζει από το προαύλιο του ναού, λίγα μέτρα πιο πέρα και λίγα ασβεστωμένα σκαλοπάτια θα μας οδηγήσουν στην πόρτα του ναού που μας περιμένει ανοιχτή ώστε να προσκυνήσουμε τον τιμώμενο Άγιο.

On the acorns, above the village you will find the white Agios Ioannis hooked to the rock, a small chapel standing silently overlooking the sea, below which is a remnant of a medieval wall section that served as a guardian of its inhabitants from raids. The journey is easy and takes about ten minutes starting from the carriageway and taking the cemented path, your view breathes and gives you a spectacular view of the settlement. Reaching a little over the middle of the route we find the section from the wall and the only passage to the chapel, we would dare to call it a small Monemvasia not in the sense of the castle town but ... the only passage ... that and to this case made the invasion of the cliff particularly difficult to make it inaccessible elsewhere, at the end of the path we meet the iron gate that separates us from the courtyard of the temple, a few meters further and a few whitewashed stairs will lead us at the door of the temple waiting for us to open to worship the honored Saint.
