A mai csatornát 1881 és 1893 között építtette a görög állam engedélyével a Magyar származású Türr István, a Panama-csatorna építésében is részt vevő Gerster Béla tervei alapján. A két végponton a közúti forgalom úgynevezett merülő hidakon át zajlik, amelyek a csatornán át közlekedő hajók érkezésekor egyszerűen alábuknak. Korinthoszii oldalon van az egyik, a másik pedig a Saronic-öböl mellett, Isztmiában. The Corinth Canal is a 6343-meter-long artificial waterway in Greece, between the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea, created by crossing the Corinth Strait. Today's canal was built between 1881 and 1893 with the permission of the Greek state, based on the plans of István Türr of Hungarian origin, Béla Gerster, who was also involved in the construction of the Panama Canal. At the two endpoints, road traffic passes through so-called submersible bridges, which are simply submerged when ships passing through the canal arrive. There is one on the Corinthian side and the other next to the Saronic Gulf in Istria.

Every few hours, a special mechanism is activated that lower the entire bridge down, to a depth of about 8 meters below the water level, thus enabling the passage of vessels, to the applause of the people who wait in the nearby tavern (on the west side of the bridge). A great experience for everyone who passes through the area!!
