★ ★ ★ ★ ★ By far the best traditional restaurant in Crete. Seriously.
I've eaten in many very good restaurants in Crete, but this one is absolutely fantastic. Irina's taverna (family owned) has a focus on lamb (arni antikristo - the cretan traditional barbecue) as the name says, but you can also get chicken, rabbit and other animals.
Everything is locally made (even the raki and ice-cream), as the restaurant has its own farm.
I strongly recommend it for everybody that is around Matala. Stay away from those turistic restaurants in Matala and better drive 10 minutes to the Taverna Lamb House. You will not regret it!

Lamp chops I got were some pieces but not the quality I expected. It was like small and big pieces, like rests. Eatable but from now on I am careful where what to order
I just set in other recension they have lamb chops, they just have me the remainings
I threw the half away, bones or fat....
Zucchini balls were the best in the world
Salad was good too
Nice people, nice location.
One star as you have me very bad meat

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best traditional Tavernas in Crete! My wife and I had the pleasure to taste the best lamb we ever ate! We drove around 1h.45 from Rethymno to this place and it was definitely worth it. If you ever visit Crete and the Matala region… don’t miss the Lamb House Taverna!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ BEST lamb I’ve ever had in my life. Had the lamb antikristo TWICE (back to back days for dinner).
We also had the same dish at The Royal Senses (5 star Hilton hotel in Crete) and this was infinitely tastier, crispier at a fraction of the price.
Fantastic staff - they make you feel just at home and give you so much fruit (is there such a thing as too generous?) and ice cream at the end.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an amazing experience. Beautiful homemade bread and olives to start, then the most amazing lamp chop dinner for main and finished by homemade sheeps milk ice cream. All washed down by homemade wine. Such a shame we are staying two and half hours away from this place otherwise we would have been back again. Thank you for the wonderful food.
