a	athanassios giannis on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η γέφυρα του Ταυρωνίτη συνδέθηκε στενά με το σημαντικό γεγονός της Μάχης της Κρήτης τον Μάιο του 1941 κατά τη διάρκεια του Δεύτερου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου στο αεροδρόμιο "Μάλεμε", στα τέλη Μαΐου 1941. Οι Γερμανοί αλεξιπτωτιστές προσγειώθηκαν με τον εξοπλισμό τους. Σε ένα λόφο στα νότια του αεροδρομίου (ύψος 107), όπου σήμερα βρίσκεται το γερμανικό στρατιωτικό νεκροταφείο, είχαν εγκατασταθεί στρατεύματα της Νέας Ζηλανδίας. Ο Κρητικός ο άμαχος πληθυσμός συμμετείχε μαζί με τα συμμαχικά στρατεύματα (κυρίως βρετανικά, αυστραλιανά και και οι λίγοι Έλληνες στρατιώτες και χωροφύλακες που βρίσκονταν στο νησί συμμετείχαν στην άμυνα της Κρήτης. Η γέφυρα του Ταυρωνίτη θεωρείται σήμερα ιστορικό μνημείο και είναι προστατεύεται από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού για τη σημαντική τεχνική του αξία και τον ιστορικό του ρόλο. The Tavronitis bridge was closely connected with the important event of the Battle of Crete in May 1941 during the Second World War at the "Maleme" airport, at the end of May 1941. The German paratroopers landed with their equipment. New Zealand troops were stationed on a hill south of the airport (height 107), where the German military cemetery is now located. The Cretan civilian population participated alongside the Allied troops (mainly British, Australian and and the few Greek soldiers and gendarmes on the island took part in the defense of Crete. Η σήμανση είναι μέτρια (Πινακίδες βανδαλισμένες από γκράφιτι, πινακίδες μη-συμβατές με ανισόπεδους κόμβους, ασυμφωνία προορισμών, προορισμοί προς τοπωνύμια που δεν υφίστανται πια, έλλειψη επαρκούς σήμανσης.). Υπάρχει νησίδα, η οποία δεν ξέρω γιατί μπήκε μόνο σε αυτό το σημείο. Τα οχήματα λιγότερο από 4 μ. ύψος δεν μπορούν να περάσουν από την γέφυρα. (Παράνομο, μιας και το κατώτατο όριο ύψους σε ευρωπαϊκές οδούς-όπως του Ε65 που περνάει από εδώ είναι 4.5 μέτρα). Υ.Γ. Δεν έχει τύχει να χρησιμοποιήσω τον κόμβο, ότι ξέρω το ξέρω από το Street View, οπότε κρατώ και μια πισινή.
