The ancient town of Gitana - is located 6 km south-west to Philiates. The theater is located on the western side of Gitana, below the mound, about 100 m from Thyamis (Kalamas) river and you can arrive there through a dirt road that connects to the village of Fragma. The theater was built in the mid-3rd century BC, and destroyed by the Romans in 167 BC. Sometimes in the winter, when there is heavy rain, the Kalamas river floods its banks, and the water arrive to the front seats of the theatre. The site is still under renovation and would become really beautiful when it will all be finished. Bottom line: nice and interesting historical site, that reveals the rich culture of the greeks during the Late Classical and Hellenistic periods.
