Impressive Tholos-type tomb. Considered the youngest tomb of Tholos in Mycenae, built around 1220 BC. The tomb was named after Clytemnestra, wife of the Mycenaean king Agamemnon, although it is unlikely that she was buried here. Pausanias wrote that Clytemnestr and Aegisthus were not allowed to be buried within the city walls because of the murder of Agamennon. On this basis, the two tombs of Tholos west of the Acropolis have been attributed to these two mythical people. The tomb is located about 130 m west of the Lion Gate of Mycenae. Dromos (the path leading to the burial chamber) is 37 m long and 6 m wide. It was built from well-hewn and partially sawn blocks of the conglomerate. The entrance is 5.60 m high, 2.54 m wide at the bottom and tapers to 2.42 m at the top. Above the gate is the so-called relief triangle, which is designed to divert the load of the superstructure to the side walls and thereby relieve the load on the floor beams. The dome of the tomb has a diameter of 13.50 m and a height of 13.50 m.
