Ο προμαχώνας Βιτούρι βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στον Προμαχώνα Ιησού και τον ΠρομαχώναΣαμπιονάρα απέναντι απο τον λόφο της Αναλήψεως. Ο Προμαχώνας Βιτούρι μαζί με τον Προμαχώνα Μαρτινέγκο ήταν οι ισχυρότεροι χερσαίοι Προμαχώνες της Κάντια, και αυτόείχε σαν αποτέλεσμα να δεχτούν, και το κυριότερο βάρος των επιθέσεων απο τους Τούρκους Το ανατολικό μέτωπο του εκτείνεται προς την πλατεία του Αγ. Φραγκίσκου την σημερινή πλατεία Ελευθερίας, με την ιδιαιτερότητα οτι αποτελούταν απο υμικυκλικό τμήμα χωρίς χαμηλή πλατεία, ενώ το νοτιοδυτικό κατέληγε σε χαμηλή πλατεία. σε μήκος εκατόν εξήντα δύο βημάτων, απόσταση που τον έκανε ευάλωτο γιατί έχοντας απέναντι του το φρούριο του Αγιόυ Δημητρίου θανάσιμο εχθρό όλης αυτής της πλευράς της πολιτείας στο ίδιο ύψος με τα θωράκια του προμαχώνα δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία πως δεν θα μπορούσε να στηρίξει επαρκώς την άμυνα του. Ο προμαχώνας Βιτούρι στην αρχή ονομάστηκε Γωνία Καλλέργη, έπειτα του Αγίου Ελευθερίου, από τη μικρή παλιά εκκλησία που βρισκόταν κοντά και τέλος επικράτησε να λέγεται προμαχώνας Βιτούρι . Δεν είναι από τις πιο γνωστές Πύλες, και είναι σχεδόν κρυμμένη, κάτω από ένα κτίριο. Αφού την ξετρυπώσεις κι εφόσον είναι ανοιχτή, μπορείς να περάσεις μέσα από την πύλη στην χαμηλή πλατεία όπου θα δεις τις κανονιοθυρίδες, κι έπειτα από την “Sortita”, την έξοδο δηλαδή, να περάσεις στον χώρο της τάφρου όπου σήμερα βρίσκεται το δημοτικό πάρκινγκ. Η Πύλη Βιτούρι χρησιμοποιείται για πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις και εκθέσεις, ειδικά το καλοκαίρι...... Σήμερα ακούεται “Βίγλα”. Ενας χωματόλοφος κατάφυτος από πεύκα. Το 1926, που έγινε ένας δυνατός σεισμός στο Ηράκλειο και άφησε πολλούς Ηρακλειώτες άστεγους, επιτρέψαν σε μερικούς και έκαμαν παράγκες πάνω στον προμαχώνα αυτό, για να στεγαστούν προσωρινά. Αυτό ήταν αφορμή να γίνει ολόκληρος συνοικισμός και να κτιστούν σπίτια, ώστε να δημιουργείται άλλο ένα πρόβλημα για την απελευθέρωση του χώρου. ΚΕΙΜΕΝΑ The Vitouri Gate, in Vigla.
