Just returned from a two week family vacation at Villa Alexandria. The location is perfect with stunning views and lovely grounds. There are plenty of shaded areas too. The Villa is great as is the pool house, the pool is very well maintained. The visitors book was an interesting read and we found some comments to be a bit ott, yes parking is a bit tight but not impossible, however some "niggles" I had to agree with. The air conditioning in some of the bedrooms was just too noisy at night, thank goodness for the fans, they were absolutely necessary. When we had a power surge/cut in the second week and lost all of the air conditioning, Maria promised she would talk to the engineer the next day and sure enough he was very prompt and sorted it without fuss which was great. I found the replacement bathroom towels to be rather scruffy, ours had some kind of blue ink stain on and the bath mat looked like it had seen better days. I realise they have such a lot of use but to me it's an important detail. My nephew caught the cleaners photographing the towels but said they stopped when they saw him looking. Not sure what that was about. As this accommodation is marketed as "Luxury" I would expect at least one change of pool towel per week, we had to launder them ourselves. Never had to do that before. The kitchen is fairly well appointed but lacking a few bits like egg cups which would be handy. Simple items like salt and pepper would make life a little easier too. Small things but important. The games room was a great addition and was used. I'm giving 4 stars only because of my own niggles but it wouldn't stop me recommending Villa Alexandria, the fact that we bought very little car fuel this year is testament to how much we loved being at the villa, we had the best holiday. We left some things behind like beach umbrellas which are handy in the searing heat. There's a lovely circular walk around the headland which we did quite a few times, take trainers! Plaka village is a steep but not long walk and has restaurants, bars and two small supermarkets which sell fresh bread. The kindness of the restauranteurs in Crete still flaws me, in the village alone we were given free cocktails, cakes, spiced fruit with yoghurt, beers and of course lots of Raki. Our arrival was very late but we were still well fed and watered at 1am!! Would definitely consider a return trip.
