Village Drapanias - Kokkino Metochi

The perfect place to stay as it's quiet and close to the most important beaches in the island.

Very cheap accommodation. The good: -Location. Close to Balos and Efalonissi Beach, Chania, Samaria gorge, Paleochora etc. -Fantastic views. -Very friendly reception. -Price. It's just very cheap. -Beautiful vegetable garden. -The stars at night. The bad: -The bed is cheap and uncomfortable. -The TV is smaller than my phone. And it doesn't work. -The waterheater leaks, and hangs above the bathroom sinks. Meaning you get the water on your head. -The power outlets were mounted very badly and would come of the wall when trying to unplug something. Rather unsafe. -Very dark at night. Almost no lights outside of the building.

If you prefer peace and quiet over the hustle and bustle, this place is ideal. Friendly owners and a clean room surrounded by some stunning scenery are waiting for you at Village Drapanias (for a very reasonable price). 15min walk to the beach and about the same to the nearest bus stop, where you can travel east to Chania(1hr) or west to Falasarna(30m), via Kissamos(15m).

We had the most amazing 5 days stay at what you might call a small local farm property - where they produced all their own vegetables, fruit, meat, olive oil and wine. The family were exceptionally generous and given we were there during a major religous feast day - they kindly invited us to join them in there family feast day lunch. We also go to know the family very well and had the privilege of building a strong relationship. They spontaneously would give us some fruit and other home produced food to eat - and we also took the opportunity to purchase some of their olive oil, wine and eggs - all of which were delicious. Highly recommend this stay as a way of getting a truly local experience of Crete & village life!!!

The hosts were lovely and very welcoming. The place is located in a picturesque scenery, olive trees, palm trees and others. Its very quiet and peaceful, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The rooms are clean and the kitchen is well supplied. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants the west part of Crete. Also its close to Elafonisi, Balos and Falasarna.

Positive: This place is a model or cleanliness. There is a daily cleaning service. The view from the balcony is very enjoyable: hills covered with olive trees and the sound of cicadas. We also believe, having compared this place to another place in Crete where we stayed a year ago, and the prices we paid, that it offers good value for money.. Negative: Unfortunately, we have a list of things here, some less, some more annoying. To begin with, on some mornings we were woken up by shooting sounds. So unpleasant! As animal lovers, we do not enjoy such sounds at all. There must be a lot of hunting around the property. The matress was not very comfortable. Internet connection was pretty bad, at least in our room. Most of the time we used our own data plans. On top of it, for a few days we had electricity problems. The moment we would turn on or off the small stove, electricity would be gone in the entire house. This was resolved after a few days when the hosts provided us with a new stove, but it was really quite a nuisance. On the last night of our stay, we were woken up sometime around 1AM by the noise. It turned out new guests had just arrived, and everyone, both the guests and the hosts, were of the opinion that it is quite appropriate to yell at that time of the night. The raucus lasted for about 10-15 minutes, when we had to react. Cost us an hour of sleep of more, as we found it difficult to fall asleep after that. On the other nights everything was fine..

Positive: 1. Nice and calm place 2. Close to all the best beaches 3. Good parking. Negative: 1. You can use air-conditioning only when you are in the apartment, hosts switch it off every time when you leave. 2. There was no cleaning at all during all the week we stayed. 3. Sleeping room is hot to sleep, there is no air-conditioner in this room.

Spacious room for a great price. Great location to use as a base for visits to Balos/Gramvousa beach or Elafonissi beach (the last one is esp. recommended) Only minor gripe where the stains in 1 sheet and the cooking area wasnt clean. 9/10, would visit again.
