Very happy to be able to visit this museum. A variety of military equipment and part of this country''s history is displayed and with good care. Kudos to the qurators and the museum staff. The latter is very helpful and ready to assist you. The location is ideal: though in downtown, a small pocket of serenity. There is also access for kids and parents with a card (even a double one). The small cafe inside offers a calm place to enjoy one's coffee ans company of friends, while admiring the scenery and the outside displays

The museum hosts a collection of greek Orders of chivalry and military medals, greek and balkan swords and weapons and military uniforms. the first floor is dedicated to various times of greek military history, greek allies and enemies. Finally, there is a special exhibition of world war 2. Season exhibitions are hosted from time to time and there are areas for society conventions and children parties. 4€ ticket!

Amazing museum related to the wars where Greece was involved. It is managed and maintained by the official Greek Army therefore it is very organized, clean and with very helpful guides. It has facilities for disabled people and other comforts.

Thessaloniki War Museum opened in October 2000. It is housed in the building designed by architect Vitaliano Poselli and erected between 1900 and 1902. The museum’s mission is to act as a base in Northern Greece for events organized by the War Museum in Athens and to help preserve historical memory and heritage in Northern Greece. Through its permanent exhibitions and various dedicatory exhibitions, the museum emphasizes the continuation of the Hellenic race throughout history, while simultaneously contributing to the documentation of the history of Greece at war. The permanent collections show events which were a watershed in Modern Greek history from the turn of the 20th century to the liberation of Greece from German forces at the end of World War II. They include photographs of the times, Greek army, air force and navy uniforms, weapons of the Greek army, replicas of artillery and ships, works of art, stone engravings, maps, paintings, postcards, and similar items from the armies of other Balkan countries. These exhibits give insight to the Balkan Wars, World War I, the Asia Minor Campaign, the Greco-Italian War, the Battle of the Forts in eastern Macedonia, the Battle of Crete, the Occupation and the Resistance, the part played by Greek forces in Allied action in North Africa, Italy and Normandy, as well as the liberation from the forces of occupation. In addition to exhibition spaces, the War Museum has an amphitheatre, a multi-purpose hall and well-stocked library of writings on history and war. Furthermore, all Ministry of Defence, Department of Military History and War Museum publications are on sale at the museum shop...!!

Quiet and nice exhibition. Body temperature check and registration required at the reception. Recommended! EU students under 25 can visit free of charge.

Great place to see. Much can be learned about the history of modern Greece not just to see guns and weapons.
