★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were quite surprised how nice this restaurant was. The prices were low so we only expected 'good value for money' but actually the food was some of the nicest we have had on Crete. The starters were fantastic, the complimentary bread fresh and tasty. There always, as other reviews have mentioned, a complimentary drink of strawberry raki which finished the meal off nicely
The location wasn't 'the best view of the harbour' as the restaurant is in the middle of the city, but it was nice enough and shaded against the heat of the day
We will be going again

We had several of the daily specials which included an excellent pork belly stew and another dish of casserolled snails - all really good. Very friendly staff and a great dessert on the house with plenty of Raki to wash it down. Really recommend it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fried codfish and chicken in Cretan cheese sauce were super delicious! And as a compliment we received classic raki and strawberry one, also plate of fruits and ice cream - very sweet of them. Service was very good and I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!

With some difficulty to find a non-touristy restaurant in the downtown, we asked for restaurant tips and came to Xalali, and are happy we came! The food was great, service so friendly and the portions much bigger than expected!
