The Kucjk Hassan Mosque (or Mosque of the Janissaries) is the oldest Ottoman building in Crete. It was erected in 1645 when the Turks captured Chania. The minaret was destroyed during the bombings of World War II. The building stopped functioning as a mosque in 1923. Since then the mosque was used for a variety of purposes (a café, a restaurant, a tourist office). In the past years it was renovated and has become a space for exhibitions.

This is an obvious highlight of Chania because of the prime spot it has in the old inner harbour. And it still looks great on the outside. Inside there are regular changing exhibitions of (local) artists. Worth the visit.

Historical and one of the rare preserved mosques, reflects the sunset colors and attracts hundreds of tourists every evening. Open as an exhibition center.

Erected in 1645 after the conquest of Chania by the Ottomans, this mosque is the oldest Ottoman building in Crete and an impressive building directly at the old Venetian harbor. The building itself no longer serves as a mosque, but the art exhibition inside is interesting. The entrance is free.

This is a great historical mosque, it has a great view from inside and outside, and still looks beautiful, it represents the Islamic Era of Chania history, now it is an art museum for nice painting and handmade souvenirs. I strongly recommend visiting it and take a great photographs there.

This mosque is quite a distinctive monument from the outside. Visible from many places around the harbour, it is reasonably well preserved. However inside nothing remains from it's original use as a mosque. There is surprisingly little space inside, but it would be much more interesting with more authentic furnishings. Nowadays it is used for art shows and similar exhibits.

There was an art exhibition going on in the mosque while we were in Chania. It's a very interesting building with a long history.
