★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο Περίανδρος ήταν γιος του Κύψελου, πρώτου τυράννου της Κορίνθου, ο οποίος όφειλε το όνομά του στο γεγονός ότι, όταν ήταν βρέφος, η μητέρα του Λάβδα τον είχε κλείσει σε ένα κιβώτιο (κυψέλη) για να τον σώσει από τους Βακχιάδες που κυβερνούσαν τότε την Κόρινθο.
 Periander was the son of Kypselos, the first tyrant of Corinth, who owed his name to the fact that, when he was an infant, Lavdas' mother had locked him in a box (hive) to save him from the Bacchians who then ruled Corinth.
