Πάνω από την κύρια είσοδο υπάρχει μαρμάρινη πλάκα με σκαλισμένες επιγραφές τόσο στην στενή της πλευρά όσο και στην πλατιά. Η πλάκα είναι τοποθετημένη ανάποδα έτσι ώστε να διαβάζεται από πάνω και τμήμα της παλιά επιγραφής. Ο ναός κτίσθηκε το 1331-32 στην μνήμη αδικοχαμένων Σλάβων Μεληγγών. Εξωτερικά, πάνω στο μάρμαρο που αποτελεί ποδιά του ανακουφιστικού τόξου, στη νότια θύρα του ναού, υπάρχουν δύο εγχάρακτες επιγραφές. Η κτητορική επιγραφή περί των Μελιγγών, Νότια θύρα, Άγιος Γεώργιος, στο Οίτυλο Μάνης Ο ναός του Αγίου Γεωργίου των Στεφανοπουλιάνων βρίσκεται στο χωριό Οίτυλο της Μάνης. Αβραμέα, έγινε μετά το 1829/1830, επανατοποθετήθηκε το μάρμαρο ανάστροφα. Η επιγραφή αναφέρει ότι ο ναός ανακαινίστηκε επί βασιλείας Ανδρόνικου του Γ’ Παλαιολόγου, το έτος 1331/1332 και επί της αρχής του τζάσι των Μελιγγών Κωνσταντίνου του Σπανή. Ακολουθούν τα ονόματα αυτών που συνέβαλαν στην ανακαίνιση του ναού και στο τέλος επίκληση στον Άγιο Γεώργιο να φυλάττει τους ιδρυτές και ανακαινιστές του ναού.
