★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The place of the 14th century Agios Nikolaos single-aisled stone Church, as well as a principle rest area in the Samaria Gorge, approximately 3.5km from the North Entrance (Xyloskalo). It offers benches for hikers to sit and have a rest, plenty of cold fresh water from natural springs, and toilets. The area was excavated in 1990, and remains of an open-air, roman-era ancient temple were found (some report to be dedicated to Apollonas).
