The rented car could hardly reach 100 km/h on the highway and had all the difficulties of the world to roll in the rise. For a rather high price on top of that... Deposit of 290€ to be paid by credit card, you are told that it will be refunded within 10 working days maximum. It's not true, after about 20 days I had still not been refunded. So I contacted Alamo who informed me that it is not 10 working days but 30 to 40 working days, that is to say 2 months of waiting... Customer service difficult to reach, not friendly and hang up on me to save time. To avoid absolutely !

First, the desk officer tried to sell me extra insurance that I did not need as I had already elected to buy additional insurance when I first booked. Then I had to wait over an hour before being offered a car that was significantly smaller than the one I had booked and was described as “similar” by the unhelpful guy running the rental car park. Eventually, after waiting another 30 minutes, I was offered an equivalent model that had a punctured spare tyre. Eventually, I was given a beaten up car that had done over 35 k, has a dodgy clutch and sticky steering. I will never use this company again.

Cars do get worn out, it does feel like they run them for much longer than at North American locations, but considering they are considerably cheaper than other major chains (eg hertz), I’m fine with it. The staff are generally very helpful and don’t try to charge you for every little dent. When you get full insurance off a third party they may try to sell you their own (presumably as they cannot access that info themselves); I see other reviewers getting their panties in a bunch over this but if you explain the cover you already have they won’t insist. And if you do get truly upset with them, unlike local companies then at least there’s a global head office you can complain to and shame publicly if you really feel you need to…
R	Raffaella Sarno on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We rented a car at a reasonable price May 2022. The car had more than 100,000 km but it was really OK without the least problem. Alamo is easy to find at Arrivals. Good staff: Panos was efficient in pick-up and return.

So many options to get ripped off… but credit where credit is due, Alamo / Enterprise / National ETH is quite ok. No hard selling the additional insurance (you can’t blame them for trying, it’s how they make their commission…) and quick admin on pickup and drop off. Car rental is fairly expensive in Greece and most of the basic cars are woefully underpowered for Greece’s mountainous terrain so you have to live with that and get used to drive a little slower… Emails to station are not answered but that’s unfortunately the standard nowadays…
