Avis - International Airport

I really rarely write reviews & I prefer to resolve complaints directly. But I want to avoid that others have these experiences and especially I don't want the impression that Greeks are homophobic, narrow-minded or unfriendly: we - a lesbian couple - have been holidaying here for many years and have had really great and open experiences. Unfortunately, we had a different experience at the Avis car rental at Athens airport. We were greeted in an unfriendly way and when they asked for our details, the employee turned away from us, talked to colleagues and we then had to repeat everything to him and he was really annoyed. We were admonished that the booking confirmation was not printed out (this was not required), we should then send the confirmation by mail. From several mail accounts we sent the mail & were always told that it had not arrived and we should then go to the airport for a printout. All this would not have been a problem or so bad if the employee had not been so extremely annoyed and constantly rolled his eyes. He was talking about us in Greek to the other staff and knowing a little Greek we know it was nothing positive. The couple in front of us were treated courteously and kindly, the customer after us got another mean comment about us with a laugh and then was served normally. We felt like we were not capable of renting a car. Maybe it's nothing against us personally, or even against us as a lesbian couple, but we can't explain it any other way. We normally only rent in Germany through Avis and have always been satisfied, we have also called customer service about this and have been treated very nicely. Nevertheless, we will probably choose Enterprise or Alamo again for our next holiday. We hope that no one else has to go through such experiences there and above all we wish that no one will let their stay in Greece be spoiled by this first contact.

They are proper fraudsters, i have legal proceedings with them after they charged my bank card, which i just used to pay for my car, not for a deposit, with all sorts of fees. They actually kept the details of the card used for payment and charged me without even any notification! If that's not theft i don't know what is. Stay away and hopefully they will go bankrupt soon.

I had called before we rented a car, to ask if a certain type of Mastercard is accepted. They told me yes. When I arrived to get my car, they told me that they don't accept that type of card. And that maybe their employee on the customer support made a mistake. Totally unprofessional and irresponsible from their side. I called 2 times, both times he made a mistake? I think they did it on purpose so as to make me rent the car and then when I arrive that I will have no other option than accept their terms. Not recommended. Be careful.

Do not rent cars from Avis. They can not be trusted and they are truly criminals. Avis lied to us in any opportunity they had and denied it. They have the worst customer service and the worst support. We would rather pay triple to not have to deal with those crooks. Avoid at any cost!!!

Scam!! Fraudsters!! Dont believe on their inspection before you get the car! Make sure you inspect it before you start it with an employee with you.. take pictures of all sides of the car! I was charged for a broken fog lights when I returned it.. scamers! If its possible place a voice note recording on your phone when u pick up and when return the car. Take pictures!! Most likely they will charge something extra.. if they ask you to sign for a damage dont sign and tell your bank or the card processor (visa.. MC.. Amex..). Only pay for what you agreed and they charge extra notify your bank.. The more complains they get most likely these card processors will stop doing business with them.

Expensive, car was not fully prepared, stunk of cigarettes, and the pre inspection checks by me where a bit disconcerting as half the scratches and dinks where not on the contract and could have been blamed on me. I took photos just in case. The hand over to me was rushed and seemed awkward so I persisted in pointing out the previous damage...that I then backed up with photos... not good enough. And the car I got was more than I wanted and I am sure I paid extra for it... but I needed a car.... be wary of Athens Avis...

Avis must be the worst rental company of all times. Try to avoid them as much as you can. You will discover extra charges, them not returning the deposit and overall a very bad experience. You can expect the costs of your rental to at least double the moment you return the car and they start to lie.
