Η λίμνη βρίσκεται μέσα στην καταπράσινη κοιλάδα του Αμαρίου, 25 χλμ νοτιοανατολικά του Ρεθύμνου. Η λίμνη έχει χωρητικότητα 23 εκατομμυρίων κυβικών μέτρων και αποτελεί ένα σπουδαίο υδροβιότοπο για τη νοτιοανατολική λεκάνη της Μεσογείου, με πολλά είδη πτηνών και ζώων να έχουν εμφανιστεί στην περιοχή. Το φράγμα συγκεντρώνει τα νερά από το Φαράγγι της Πατσού, τη μικρή κοιλάδα της Παντάνασσας και το΄ρέμα της Σταυρομάνας που έρχεται από την περιοχή της Αγίας Φωτεινής. Πάνω από τον ταμιευτήρα υπάρχουν τα ερείπια του Οθωμανικού Κούλε των Ποταμών. Δεκατρία ολόκληρα χρόνια χρειάστηκαν για την υλοποίηση του. Πρόκειται για ένα από τα πιο πρωτοποριακά, ενεργειακά έργα που έχουν γίνει στη χώρα μας. Το φράγμα των Ποταμών πέρα από έργο πνοής για ολόκληρο το Νομό Ρεθύμνου είναι και σημαντικός πόλος έλξης επισκεπτών. Οι οποίοι μπορούν να θαυμάσουν τον νέο υδροβιότοπο που έχει δημιουργηθεί, τα γεωμορφολογικά χαρακτηριστικά της περιοχής και βέβαια το ίδιο το έργο του Φράγματος. The river of rivers is formed by the dam of Amari, which was inaugurated in 2009. The lake is located in the green valley of Amari, 25 km southeast of Rethymnon. The lake has a capacity of 23 million cubic meters and is a great wetland for the southeastern Mediterranean basin, with many species of birds and animals appearing in the area. The dam collects the waters from the Gorge of Patsos, the small valley of Pantanassa and the creek of Stavromana that comes from the area of Agia Fotini. Above the reservoir are the ruins of the Ottoman Koule of the Rivers. It took thirteen whole years to implement it. This is one of the most innovative, energy projects that have been done in our country. The Dam of the Rivers, apart from being a breath of fresh air for the entire Prefecture of Rethymno, is also an important pole of attraction for visitors. Who can admire the new wetland that has been created, the geomorphological characteristics of the area and of course the work of the Dam itself.

Το τοπίο είναι υπέροχο και θυμίζει κεντρική Ευρώπη καθώς είναι καταπράσινο και δροσερό. Στη λίμνη υπάρχουν ψάρια, μάλλον κυπρίνοι όπως μας πληροφόρησαν ντόπιοι, αλλά η περιοχή δε συνιστάται για ψάρεμα. Επίσης υπάρχουν πουλιά, όμως απαγορεύεται το κυνήγι. Θα βρείτε ένα καφέ μπροστά στη λίμνη ακριβώς για να απολαύσετε τον καφέ σας, το ουζάκι σας και κανένα μεζεδάκι συνοδευτικά απολαμβάνοντας τη μαγευτική θέα. S	Skolopender on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ sehr schöner See und angenehme Wanderstrecke - mein Tipp: vom Damm aus entgegen des Uhrzeigersinns laufen; dann hat man die Steigungen am Anfang... einmal um den See läuft man etwa 2,5-3 Stunden... ungefähr ein Drittel ist auf gut ausgebauter Straße, aber da ist so gut wie kein Verkehr; wir haben in den 3 Stunden vlt 10 Autos gesehen... aber immer schöner Blick auf den See und schöne Gegend very beautiful lake and pleasant hiking route - my tip: walk counter-clockwise from the dam; then you have the inclines at the beginning ... once around the lake you walk about 2.5-3 hours ... about a third is on a well-developed road, but there is almost no traffic; We saw mostly 10 cars in the 3 hours ... but always nice view of the lake and beautiful area
