A magnificent ancient Venician city with many features as the original. The water system is amazing as is the amphitheatre. A must visit for those who are interested in ancient cities.

Sizable site with multiple areas. Takes about 1-2 hrs to walk around, watch the movie and get out. While the main event is the amphitheater, there are also a large Zistern, a house with atrium and various other remnants of buildings. You can walk around the site freely, enter buildings and roam around and explore. At the time we visited it was only open until 15:00. There is also a fortress close by, with great views over the bay. Definitely worth the 2 Euro entrance fee for the whole thing. About 25 min drive from Chania.

It was first founded by the Greeks after Minoan culture lost its strength and Greeks settled in Crete. Later, the Romans added their flavor to it. It is a part of the complex Ancient Aptera Archeological Site and it is remarkable. Must visit! Also, make sure to check out the main site with baths, cisterns and on the other side of the complex (outside the area you got ticket for) visit the Roman vila archeological site. Parking is huge, there are two big lots - make sure that if the first one is full to proceed further to the other one. Enjoy! ?

Ruins of an ancient amphitheatre of Hellenistic and Roman origine. It's worth the visit but make sure to go early to avoid the crowd. Tip: pack a picknick and enjoy sitting down under the olive trees next to the theatre.

Awesome spot if you like ancient ruins. Loved the Roman baths. Lots of beautiful wild flowers and the area is awesome in general for pictures.
