★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) Purnari I (known Also as Arta Dam) is a remarkable site.
It located 3 km north east to Arta along the the Arachthos River (the largest river in Epirus and the eighth largest nationally).
The dam was built in 1981 and it is the second largest earthen dam in Greece after Mornos Dam.
It was built for three purposes:
1. Flood prevention
2. Irrigation of the plain of Arta &
3. Production of electricity for the wider region
The dam was constructed between 1976-1980.
Its maximum height is 107m
The power plant complex is comprised of three turbine unitsand it has a total production capacity of 300mw.
