It is constructed on the Acheloos River at its junction with the Leeskovitiko river, on the borders of the Karditsa and Arta counties.
The project has started at 1996, and so far, about 60% of the project has been completed.
The works on Sykia Dam has been suspended for many years due to lack of budget.
The project is consists of three parts:
I. The Sykia Dam,
II. Sykia Hydroelectric Station,
III. The Pefkofytos Hydroelectric Power Stationץ
The dam's area looks like a huge ugly wound in the heart of the nature. What a pity that project of this magnitude is run so amateurishly.
