Incredible archaeological site. Highly recommend to visit an hour before sunset. The Temple of Poseidon under the late afternoon sunlight is just a stunning site.

The Cape is a beautiful place with most notably the impressive temple of Poseidon, and then Naos cafe to have some food and drinks with a terrific view. However our visit of the temple became a disappointment as the Greek had decided to celebrate May the 1st on May the 2nd...

The temple of Poseidon in Sounion is one of the most picturesque archeological sites we visited while in Greece. The views are amazing. We went with a tour guide that really helped us learn about the site, which might not be as easy if you are on your own. There is also a small shop with food and facilities at the site. The drive along the coast from Athens is also beautiful and well worth the trip on its own.

Cap Sounion was highly recommended by a couple I met near Piraeus. I expected a village with the walking opportunity to the Poseidon Temple. Infact it is a place with widely spread houses, inbetween an apartment house, a restaurant and a messy bad smelling hotel about 4 km off the temple. The only way to get there (if you are not willing to walk on the main road) is by taxi for 10€ one way. I took the same bus I came with back to Athens and took a picture from the road. If you want to visit the temple, take a 2 hr bus from Athens and after 30 minutes the same bus back. Trust me, there is nothing else to see.

Visit what I believe is the next best temple to Hephaestes in Athens. This beautiful temple overlooks the meeting of two different seas (Saronic and Agean), however do not be completely distracted by it that you miss exploring the entire site where you will learn the purpose of the settlement of this hill overlooking the bay.

The finest sunset you'll ever see. We swam in the sea in the beach below the temple and then caught this incredible view. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful archeological site of Poseidon temple. Nice restaurant to drink a cold coffee or lunch/dine. One star off for a few difficult spots to walk on. There is a nice walkway, handicap chair accessible for 95% of the way, why not complete the remaining 5% ???

The place is amazing with the great vie of the ocean and the temple itself. The sunsent and evening was amazing and it is a must see. They have a cafe/restaurant on site with good toilets and great service, if you need a taxi back to Athens they can assist you. The journey can be a bit of a problem, you can either go on private tour guide or taxi or public bus from Athens. If you take the public transport the last return Journey is at 5:30pm which won't allow you to see the sunset.
