E	EagleEye Greece on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η χιονότρυπα βρίσκεται στα 2100 μέτρα, κάτω από την κορυφή του Φαλακρού όρους, κοντά στο σαλέ του χιονοδρομικού. Πρόκειται για καταβόθρα που κατέρρευσε η οροφή της, ενώ είναι και ένα από τα βαθύτερα βάραθρα της Μακεδονίας (-111μ) με μεγάλο άνοιγμα και μόνιμο χιόνι στον πάτο του. Διανοίγεται σε μάρμαρο με τον πάγο και το νερό να παίζουν καθοριστικό ρόλο στη διάβρωση και διαμόρφωση του σπηλαίου. Η πρώτη κατάβαση γίνεται σε σαθρό λούκι και είναι 55 μέτρα, όπου φτάνουμε στο κομμάτι του πάγου, ο οποίος αυξομειώνεται ανάλογα με την εποχή του χρόνου και τα χιόνια. Στα τοιχώματα της βόρειας πλευράς υπάρχει συνέχεια ανάμεσα στο χιόνι και το βράχο. Η είσοδος αυτή στον κάτω κόσμο της χιονότρυπας είναι φραγμένη από χιόνι τους περισσότερους μήνες του χρόνου.. Αρχικά η κατάβαση είναι κατακόρυφη για 15 μέτρα μέσα σε μικρό τούνελ και στη συνέχεια γίνεται επικλινής πάνω σε πλαγιά χιονιού για να καταλήξει μετά από άλλα 15 μέτρα σε έναν εντυπωσιακό θάλαμο, με πλούσιο διάκοσμο στα τοιχώματα του και ύψος οροφής στα 40μ περίπου. Εκεί είμαστε στα -90 μέτρα, ενώ το σπήλαιο συνεχίζει για άλλα 20 μέτρα όπου και καταλήγει σε δεύτερο θάλαμο. Στην αρχή της 2ης κατάβασης βρέθηκε και μία σανίδα του σκι, αγνώστου ηλικίας.. Το χρονικό της εξερεύνησης και χαρτογράφησης της καταβόθρας ξεκινάει το 2007, όπου 2 μέλη του ΣΟΚ (Μακροστέργιος Λ. και Μονάχας Σ), μετά από υπόδειξη του Ν.Διάφα θα κατεβούν στο μεγάλο θάλαμο, ενώ θα γίνουν άλλες δύο αποστολές όπου θα εξερευνηθούν και κάποιες άλλες συνέχειες. Αξιοσημείωτη είναι και η εργασία των Μακροστέργιου-Λαζαρίδη "Geology and morfology of Chionotrypa cave", 2014.
