Best Hiking area in Greece

A	Arthur Briquet on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible, quiet hike with no tourists. To get there, we recommend taking a taxi from Chora Sfakion (30€). There are several sections where you have to climb a bit, and one section with ladders. Overall, it was fairly easy but probably not the best hike for small children or anyone who is injured (as you need both legs and both arms in several sections) Once you have arrived at Marmaris beach, enjoy a nice ouzo and rent long chairs before taking a boat back to Loutro, then Sfakia (5€ to Loutro, +4-5€ back to to Sfakia). You’re going to be gorge in this gorge!
R	Rosa de Groot on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very beautiful gorge, but not always very easy. Some parts you really have to climb and crawl over river stones. But there are also good parts where you can walk easily. We missed the ladders, apparantly they are somewhere near the stone stairs in the gorge, so pay attention there if you want to use them. Marmara beach is very rewarding. Go in the morning! We took from Chóra Sfakíon a taxi to the start of the gorge and walked from Marmara to Loutro and from there on we took a boat. But it was very hot, and the last part almost no shadow. So be wise and don’t do it in the summer (lesson learned...)

You’re walking on a river bed with large loose rocks and there are some sections where the path requires scrambling. When the path directs you up some stairs prepare yourself for the sketchiest part of the hike. Don’t take your grandad. Five out of five.

I would recommend it Everybody who likes the nature but also like a little adventure because it's not only walking but also climbing and sliding. Klados in Rethymnon Greece is a very good organisation and Sakis is one of the best guides.
R	Rob Saxton on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great walk! Rope to help you down a steep bit before the ladders, the ladders were fun. Definitely not for new hikers, parts of it are at least a grade 1 scramble. Ask in the taverna at the bottom and he can ring a guy up to give you a lift back up to the top. About 20min walk to the pickup point, cost €25.
W	Will Wright on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really stunning scenery - pictures don't do it justice. The hike isn't too challenging, you just need to be sure footed as it is lots of rocks and scree. Wear hiking shoes if possible - our trainers are nearly ruined because of it.
A	Adrian Katz on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We did the circuit starting in Anopolis. Not including stops, it took us around 1.5h to descend to Loutro (where we had lunch), 1.5h to walk over to Marmara (a great place for a swim), 3h to go up the Gorge, and 1h to return to Anopolis via an old mule track. The circuit as a whole is varied and rewarding. This gorge itself is majestic but also atmospheric and slightly foreboding. The air inside is incredibly still and any sound echoes off the cliffs on each side. There are several dead goats, which smell awful, but also sections with flowers and birds. Near the top the path branches and you can choose to climb the ladders, which are a bit rickety, or take a path with stone steps and wooden handrails which goes up the side of the gorge.
V	Virginia Arvaniti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice to stop by the bridge and make a photo of a small snow white church on the gorge, go in the morning about 10 am x best light. You can visit the church 10 min from the bridge but nothing interesting. No reason to go inside the gorge, long way to the Marmara beach, rocky and dusty, pretty boring. Just snap a photo and go by car to Marmara beach, trek to the beach 20 min by foot. ENJOY ??
