Α. Α. Γ. Κ. Ν. Ι. Θ.
In the middle of the 15th century, the first, in the current location of the Temple, a small Temple was erected and which was set on fire by the Turks in 1739-1740, during the Russo-Turkish War, by naughty detachments of Turks. In 1754 a larger church was built again and was named "Holy Temple of the Holy and Glorious Prophet Prodromos and Baptist John" to be set on fire in the year 1788. However, in the period 1789-1790 and with the permission of the Turk "MOULA" was built again new Temple, which was set on fire for the third time in 1821.
In 1840 a new church was rebuilt and which was set on fire for the fourth time in 1845. However, the obsession of the parishioners of Anakasia and in the 1850s they rebuilt a new church. All the above Holy Temples were erected in the same place that the present Temple holds.
The Temple of 1850 with the devastating earthquakes of 1955-1956 suffered severe damage and the danger of its collapse was obvious. There was a thought to demolish and build a new Temple from the beginning. However, because the Archaeological Service considered the Temple to be preserved, an anti-seismic reconstruction took place, without any change in the interior of the Temple and its roof. The current rhythm of the Temple is "Royal Three-aisled". The roof of the middle aisle is vaulted, with three vaulted hemispheres with indistinguishable hagiographies, except for the middle dome depicted by the Pantocrator. The Temple - the Despotic and the Pulpit are wood carvings and must have been built during the construction of the Sanctuary
Church in the year 1850, and are decorated with icons of Saints dating from 1855 and the main hagiographer-painter is Margaritis Makritziotis from Makrinitsa, Pelion, whose main surname was "Hatziangelis".
At the entrance of the Temple and on the right there are two memorial plaques dedicated to the fallen during the Balkan wars 1912-1913 and as fallen are listed: Nick. A. Gavgidis - Ah. A. Ioannou - Ap. G. Moraitis - Marg. K. Doumousiaris - Dim. N. Stoumbou - Al. I. Tsiantos -Joan. Th. Tsamtsakopoulos. And 1947-1949: Ioannis K. Pitsioris - CH. Matzoukis

Going up to Pelion the first picturesque Church is of Agios Ioannis! Built of stone and its courtyard is paved by the unique slab of Pelion!
