A small, somewhat anonymous archaeological site, it is found on the road that goes from the historic center of Corfu to Kanoni. The site (which we found closed) is cut in two by the road, from which there is still an excellent view of the area and where you can see the ancient remains of what looks like a Byzantine basilica and what was probably the agora.

The early Christian basilica of "Palaiopolis" was built on the site of the Roman Agora by Bishop Jobianos of Kerkyra in the middle of the 5th century. Erected (according to the inscription on the tribelon) over some ancient ruins, this church was a five-aisled wooden-roofed basilica with a transept and a double narthex, and was richly decorated with splendid marble carving and mosaic floors. The ravages of time, and particularly the repeated raids by barbarian invaders, reduced the church to a three-aisled basilica in the 6th century and to a single-aisled structure in about the 11th, which form it has retained throughout the post Byzantine period to the present day. The successive stages in the construction of this monument. and its general history in relation to the city of Corfu, make it one of the most impontant and best-loved of the island's Byzantine monuments. The site is now in a pity state as it is not actively maintained and permanently closed for the public so you can only see it from behind the gates.
