About Hellenic Children's Museum
Το Ελληνικό Παιδικό Μουσείο είναι ένα μη κερδοσκοπικό Σωματείο κοινωφελούς χαρακτήρα με εκπαιδευτικό και πολιτιστικό σκοπό. Είναι αναγνωρισμένο από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού ως Ν.Π.Ι.Δ. με πολιτιστικούς σκοπούς (ΦΕΚ 1401/22-10-01). Ιδρύθηκε το 1987 από ομάδα νέων επιστημόνων,με πρωτοβουλία της Σοφίας Ρωκ Μελά.
Είναι μέλος του Διεθνούς Συμβουλίου Μουσείου (ICOM-www.istomediahost.gr/icom), του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικτύου Παιδικών Μουσείων Hands On! International (www.hands-on-international.net), του Δικτύου Μουσείων της Αθήνας (www.athensmuseums.net) και του Δικτύου Πολιτισμού του Δήμου Αθηναίων (www.athensculturenet.com).
Αποστολή του Ελληνικού Παιδικού Μουσείου
Αποστολή του να βοηθήσει τα παιδιά, από τη προσχολική τους ηλικία, να αναπτύξουν όλο τους το δυναμικό, ώστε να γίνουν πολίτες, οι οποίοι με σεβασμό για την ατομικότητά τους θα αποκτήσουν κοινωνική συνείδηση και την αίσθηση της ανάγκης να συμβάλλουν στη κοινότητα που ζουν, αυτός είναι και ο Σκοπός του Σωματείου μας.
Πώς επιτυγχάνεται η αποστολή του;
α. Με τη δημιουργία Παιδικών Μουσείων
β. Με την ανάπτυξη συλλογών, εκθεμάτων, εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων, μέσω των οποίων, τα παιδιά, θα κατανοήσουν στοιχεία του πολιτισμού, της ιστορίας, της τέχνης, της επιστήμης, του φυσικού και τεχνητού περιβάλλοντος και των ανθρωπίνων σχέσεων.
γ. Με την εκπαίδευση ενηλίκων.
δ. Με τη συνεργασία ενός επιστημονικού προσωπικού πολλαπλών ειδικοτήτων.
ε. Με την ενημέρωση του κοινού.
στ. Με τη συνεχή επαφή και ανταλλαγή ιδεών με μουσεία, διεθνείς οργανισμούς, κυβερνητικούς και μη, δίκτυα στο εσωτερικό και εξωτερικό.
ζ. Με την διαρκή έρευνα, εκπόνηση και έκδοση μελετών σχετικών με τις δραστηριότητες του Σωματείου.
η. Με την ανάπτυξη και λειτουργία εθελοντικού προγράμματος.
θ. Με την υποστήριξη πρωτοβουλιών για την ανάπτυξη συναφών προσπαθειών.
Το 1994 σε συνεργασία με τον ΟΠΑΝΔΑ, ο καταστατικός στόχος για τη δημιουργία Παιδικού Μουσείου πραγματοποιήθηκε. Από τις 29.12.1994 στην Αθήνα, λειτουργεί το πρώτο Παιδικό Μουσείο της Ελλάδας και ίσως το πρώτο στην Ευρώπη.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a great place to bring the kids. There is no entry fee while the people working there are entertaining the kids. My son spent there a few hours and had a great time. Particularly for him, it was a great opportunity to practice his English, as we found out he wasn't the only non Greek child in the room.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Free! Good activities for a 3 year old! There was a kitchen and market play area, a craft space, some music stuff, a big chalkboard on the floor and more. I visited with my daughter while touring Athens to break up the day a little. We spent about an hour and a half and had a fine time. Most of the signs are in Greek but the staff spoke English. Many kids that were a few years older seemed to have a great time while we were there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice place for younger kids. It is not very big but the pretend play grocery store is very impressive. One star taken off due to hard to find the entrance (at the back side, not the street-facing side) and no next-to-building parking lot (but Polis Park is close by). The best way to come here is by bus but it can be hard for parents with babies/toddlers. For non-Greek speaking kids/parents, the staff can communicate with in English but 99% of signs are in Greek. It is also worth visiting the Athens War Museum near by.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Can hardly be called a museum, more like an activity center. But our 8 yo had a great time. A little hard to find since there are no street signs. You simply have to walk into the building and search for the entrance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don’t waste your time! The fat chick that works the desk shouldn’t be working with children. She was exceptionally rude. They also don’t allow young kids but she stupidly suggested we can keep the 18mo out so our 4yo could play. It’s snowing. Since it’s non profit people should consider investing elsewhere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfortunately, I could not give more stars as they didn’t let us in.
First of all, very difficult to find the place. I have read others commenting as well not easy to find because there are no signs and it’s true. One map shows on one road the other map shows on an other road.
Some police guys helped me to finally get there. Please note if you are going alone and you have a stroller there are lots of stairs to get up there.
Once we got up, the main door was closed. One lady opened and told me my son wouldn’t be allowed as it’s only from 3 years old as they have to wear masks. When I said I didn’t find any information on the website regarding the measurements she said it was posted in the ‘News’ section. As something so important like this should be front page where everyone can see it. And then she said anyways you have to book an appointment.
As I looked inside it was empty. 11 o’clock and I didn’t see one kid. Many families were waiting outside.
Looked very nice and organized. I love the idea of the place I wish we were allowed to get in.
When I expressed my disappointment to the lady that it was hard to find, no information on the website etc she said I know, we are working on it! So work a little bit harder and at least you could have said sorry. Or something like that. ‘We appreciate you came and apologize for the inconvenience However we can’t wait for you to come back as soon as your child is older! Thank you and have a good day!’
