★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Hellenistic ancient theater of Dìon is located at the foot of Mount Olympus 17 km south to Katerini and 200 m from the village of Dion.
Its construction dates to the Hellenistic era, probably in the reign of King Philipp V (221-179 BC) that rebuilt the city of Dion.
The excavation work of the site began in 1973 and ended at 1998.
After completion of renovation work, the theatre has been regularly hosting performances of the Olympus Festival since 1991.
