A shame that a spot this famous is left like this. I visited it to walk where the great leonidas died, but this “information center” is simply A projection of a movie of 15 minutes About what happened. Above that, they charge you €3 for it. I would recommend visiting the monument 200 further and Reading the history of the battle next to it. That way you don’t feel ripped off while enjoying this heroïc tale.

This is a truly amazing place and a must see site. The museum is completely self funded and they do an amazing job so please purchase a ticket or at least a magnet to support it. As for the place itself, you will not be able to leave the area without feeling empowered and ready to take on the next challenge in your life. An inspiring tale of heroism and self-sacrifice!

The museum is really small. It didnt have alot to show. Just a movie few interactive screens and a big puppet. The place doesn't look authentic at all and you really dont feel the magic as you should in a museum. The price is cheap and the staff is nice but for the museum itself, I wouldn't bother go spacially. Watching the movie "300" will just do.

This museum is really bad. It doesn't have exhibitions, only some screens that show you poor animated battles. Don't recommend it

To be able to say that you stood near the site of one of the most famous battles ever fought in the history of the whole world should surely be a moment of wonder in your life. However, the Greeks have worked extremely hard to remove any sense of awe or atmosphere or magic from the site and have been pretty (but not completely) successful. Starting with an almost complete lack of any signs directing you to the site, carrying on by an absence of any defining boundary and finishing with one small display board the site is an insult to the memory of those who fell. There is one monument and a building that has a 12 minute film and that's your lot. Still, after all that I'll go to my grave saying 'I was there'.

Hmm, the battle was fought just above the hot spring. Why is the monument 800 meters away? No, the Greek Government is not stupid. When the Persians decided to go around Leonidas thru a hill and come from his back, he retreated, methodically and gradually half a mile, thus be behind the confluence of the 2 Persian prongs. He succeeded, and was capable to stop the Persians, at a slightly wider pass. The death of his son in the back caused Leonidas to leave the front line, and go to his son's side. The Spartan ranks broke.. The Persian King ordered his men to shoot them with arrows! The monument location is exactly where both Leonidas and his son died and thus where the battle ended. One thing worth noting here: The area where the highway runs was covered by the sea. The Greek government reclaimed it. Which means, if you died or go injured or cornered, you are falling down into the rocky and sea=flooded bottom. Very rough thought as you enter this battlefield. Enjoy Greece more, by reading

AREA IS POORLY MARKED for PHOCIAN WALL. There are a couple monuments dedicated to the battle, a large board explaining the events of the battle with drawings. Then confoundingly a dedication to WWII (I think??) battle on Crete. This was off to the side and no signage for it at all and hidden in long grass. Across the street is the fortified hill with a plaque, then the trail to the Phocian wall which is not marked at all. I only found it when I looked on google maps to see what other interesting landmarks were in the area!!! There is also a natural hot spring nearby, go for a soak!!! Couple homeless dogs at spring. One tour bus came and stopped at the memorial and left 20 min later. 5 others came through as well.
