★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kremasti dam is an amazing and most impressive dam, located around 30 km north to Agrinio, and it is one of the largest and oldest dams of Greece.
It was erected near the confluence of the rivers Achelous, Agrafiotis, Tauropoulos and Trikeriotis that collect the water of the western and southern parts of the central zone of the Pindos Mountains that form a catchment area of 3,500 square kilometers.
Its construction began at 1959 and it was completed in 1965, and it is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Greece with a power generation capacity of 440 MW.
The dam has a height of 165 m and it is the second tallest dam in Greece after Thissavros dam (172 m). It has a length of 460 m and its completion led to the creation of Kremasta artificial lake, the largest artificial lake of Greece (81 square kilometers).
The whole area is most beautiful and you can reach the dam from Agrinio, just take into consideration the narrow and winding roads.
Don't miss the two beautiful lake-built bridges, Tatarna Bridge (about 10 km to the north) and Episcopal Bridge (10 km to the east).
