★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An antient town of classical era ( but also traces of habitation of Minoan times, mostly pottery fragments). You will find here a temple with marvellous floor, collumns, fine crafted stone blocks and many more roman remnants. The more you wonder around the more traces you find. At the very bottom of the bay you will find a really nice rocky beach with crystal clear water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Accessible by both boat and on foot Lissos is an interesting site to visit, some 1.5 km from Sougia; further from Paleochora. We took a boat both ways so cannot comment on the walk, part of the E4 route.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lissos is a beautiful place. Peaceful and interesting. It is no longer inhabited so it's essential you take food and a water container. There is water available from a spring. There is plenty of shade and a beautiful pebble beach with clear blue sea, great for snorkling. There is no road to Lissos, you can walk through a gorge and up and down a steep, rocky but we'll marked path from Sougia. This takes an hour or so. You can also get a taxi boat from Sougia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ancient Lisos is approximately an hour walk from Sougia on the E 4 heading west. You find some tables in the shadow for a rest and good spring water to refill the water bottles. If you want to explore the site, calculate and hour. It has a nice stony beach. If you don't want to proceed your hike towards Paleochora you can call a pick up service - they take you by boat back to Sougia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stunning we thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the spectacular gorge and exploring the extensive ruins. Swimming in the sea then catching the boat back. Highlight of our two week trip to Crete.
The walk down from the gorge is a bit nerve wracking though bit well worth it
