There is a mystical energy on this sacred site. You need to read the history of this place first to be able to imagine but if you sit quietly you can receive the energy of the Great Goddess - Mother Earth that was worshipped here 1.700 years B.C. The best time to visit is after 16.30 when the sun sets behind the mountains and the sunbeams are revealing the forms of the ruins. I love this place !

One of the 4 administrative centres in Minoan Crete. Remains of the palace and cisterns with turtles. Unfortunately no findings are kept at location which is a pity. Small souvenir shop.

Interesting and definitely worth a visit but not well looked after. Great tavernas looking over the sea and walk the nearby gorge.

A fine excavation to visit, but not the easiest place to get to if you stay far away. The area itself is not very big, but the excavations are well explained by information panels around the site. We also met no less than three guides around the site who were ready to give you more information about the place and answer your questions! Apparently, the olive trees around the site are grown from over 3000-year-old olives that were spread around the area under a volcanic eruption many years ago.

Basic room plans are shown for the palace but very little else is told at the site. Slightly disapointing because of that. I did not have the time to walk the Gorge of the Dead but apparently it is a fairly easy walk going towards the sea.

Quite a nice and beautiful place. The ruins tell a lot about the history of the place.

Pleasant morning spent looking round. I was visiting with 2 Archeologists which was handy to point out the authentic remains and where walls had been build to give you an idea.
