★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Εθνική Αντίσταση αποκαλείται η αντίσταση που πρόβαλλαν οι Έλληνες κατά τη διάρκεια της κατοχής εναντίον των κατακτητών, μέσω των αντάρτικων οργανώσεων είτε στα βουνά, είτε στις πόλεις για την απελευθέρωση της χώρας. Η αντίσταση ξεκίνησε σχεδόν αμέσως μετά την πτώση και την συνθηκολόγηση της Ελλάδας, τον Απρίλιο του 1941. Αρχικά υπήρξε προϊόν αυθόρμητων ενεργειών μεμονωμένων πολιτών ή μικρών ομάδων πολιτών, άλλα σταδιακά απέκτησε οργανωμένη μορφή με την ίδρυση αντιστασιακών οργανώσεων. Από τα μέσα του 1942 εξελίχθηκε σε ένοπλο αγώνα στην ύπαιθρο. Ήδη από τα μέσα του 1943 οι αντάρτικές ομάδες είχαν προκαλέσει σοβαρά πλήγματα στους κατακτητές και είχαν κατορθώσει να απελευθερώσουν τμήμα της ορεινής ενδοχώρας.

National Resistance is the resistance shown by the Greeks during the occupation against the occupiers, through guerrilla organizations either in the mountains or in the cities for the liberation of the country. The resistance began almost immediately after the fall and capitulation of Greece in April 1941. Initially it was the product of spontaneous actions of individual citizens or small groups of citizens, but gradually acquired an organized form with the establishment of resistance organizations. From the middle of 1942 it developed into an armed struggle in the countryside. As early as mid-1943, rebel groups had dealt a severe blow to the occupiers and had managed to liberate part of the mountainous hinterland.
