A really unique and beautiful place to see, it features an awesome view and is one of a kind history trip. Plus the monastery has a lot of cats.

This beautiful Monastery of Theotokos Evagelistria is built on the highest point of Skiathos near the port. Skiathos translated means "At(in) the shade of Athos" Also known as the isle of saints because of its abundance of offspring from the "Kolivades", a religious dispute movement from the 18th to the 19th century. What a spiritual experience this morning, originally a mens monastery it only became accessible to women a few decades ago and it was a blessing to hear the male voices eco through the old walls of the monastery and spread their message to the world while humble devotees trickle in from outside for their blessings and devotions. Its good to be still and just experience the atmosphere here. The historical value of the monastery is seen in its informative folklore museum with loads of important relics that are kept and displayed inside. This is also the place where the Greek flag was "born", so to speak, in cooperation with sacred abbott Nephon, Nikotsaras and Stathas, they drew, weaved and raised the first blue and white flag here. ?? Very nice monastery, traditional and picturesque. It even has its own small museum. The location is breathtaking too.

A really old and beautifully made Monastery treated with care. The old part of the monastery is a museum with lots of history for christians but also for people enthusiastic for the Balkan Wars. There is also a shop that has old and new olive pressers as showcasing but also things to sell, such as oils, desserts, jewelry, etc etc. I recommend a visit even if you're not Christian.

Awesome place with lots of history in its walls. We didn’t explore everything, so we have an excuse to come back.

Very well maintained and well stocked shop for gifts and their produce. Good museum worth a visit. Need car or taxi or bus to reach from Skiathos, though.
