Very beautiful place! Nice route from town and with nice spots to stop to admire the view!

The Taxiarches Monastery is located in southern Ithaca, in the area of ​​Vouni, the mountain behind Perachori. From the end of the village, a dirt road leads to the monastery, but it is quite rugged and requires a special vehicle. The distance is not more than three kilometers, in dense vegetation and green slopes. According to tradition, the Monastery of Taxiarches was built in 1613. A small church with its cells and a wall around it, especially taken care of by the villagers. At the end of the road, opposite the entrance of the Taxiarches Monastery there is a large, towering holly (a passage as it is called in Ithaca). A tall cypress tree is found in the courtyard of the monastery and offers its shadow to the faithful who visit it on the day of its feast on 13 July. The previous evening, at the Taxiarches Monastery, a big feast. On the way to the Taxiarchon Monastery, you will see and admire the traditional, old, stone threshing floor where the grain was stamped for the fruit to come out. At the back of the Taxiarches Monastery there is a large chestnut tree and a properly landscaped area where the inhabitants of Perachori used to celebrate May Day and Clean Monday in the countryside.
