Das Staatsgebiet umfasste die Inseln Andikythira, Andipaxos, Korfu, Kythira, Lefkada, Ithaka, Kefalonia, Paxos und Zakinthos. Sitz der Regierung war Kerkira-Stadt.
Durch einen Vertrag zwischen Groß Britannien, Russland, Österreich und Griechenland vom 29.03.1864 wurde die Vereinigung der Ionischen Inseln mit Griechenland vereinbart und am 02.06.1864 vollzogen.
Daran erinnert dieses eher unscheinbare, kaum beachtete Denkmal an der Spinada in Kerkira.
The Republic of the Ionian Islands, later the United States of the Ionian Islands, existed from 1800 to 1864 under protectorates of Russia & the Ottoman Empire, later France and finally the United Kingdom.
The national territory included the islands of Andikythira, Andipaxos, Corfu, Kythira, Lefkada, Ithaka, Kefalonia, Paxos and Zakinthos. The seat of government was Kerkira City.
By a treaty between Great Britain, Russia, Austria and Greece of March 29th, 1864, the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece was agreed and carried out on June 2nd, 1864.
This rather inconspicuous, hardly noticed monument on the Spinada in Kerkira is a reminder.
