Unable to visit after attempting to take multiple routes. All roads leading to it were blocked by gate or parked car.

Not easily accessible. Seems like the neighbours don’t want you to access it. Like others have said, you need to go through the church to the cave behind it. You also need a flashlight/torch. Your phone will not be enough. The place is pretty run down. There is garbage everywhere. Judging from the smell and toilet paper strewn about, I’m sure someone must’ve taken a #2 in the cave as well. Shame it turned out like this. Could’ve been pretty interesting.

Interesting eerie place. Have to be real brave to wonder around the tunnels with a flashlight )) Free entrance )))

You really need good torch, Phone's flash is not enough. After small roads, behind the little schapel.

The bunker/observatory was built in 1942/3 as part of the installation on the Cape Drapano. It was used as a an observation for the gulf of Souda and to guide the artillery firing in co-operation with other observatory positions. The main observation position is on the top of the hill at 500m+ altitude and has a terrific view. The ruins at the square near the bunker are the old barracks. The whole Cape Drapano was an enormous defensive network with pillboxes, trenches and the terrifying 210mm Skoda Guns (4 in number) that belonged to the 3rd Squadron of the 834th artillery battalion. These guns had a range of 33klm covering even the city of Rethymno. There were also 6 French 155mm guns at the western part of Drapano belonging to the 9th Squadron of the 520th Artillery battalion. Most of these bases are still accessible and worth visiting. The only negative is the extended construction and encroachment of the area that blocks paths and entries and even for the bunker someone has to cross the yard of a villa to enter if he wants to avoid the cave network.

Hard to get here. Maps will take you to someone’s private area. Instead of going there, you have to turn right one street earlier. Take flashlight with you. Don’t be scared to walked trough dark cave. There is not much in there. No homeless people during my visit.

You definitely need a flashlight. But a good phone light will work too.

Highly recommended that you drive up park by the church and be brave walk into the dark tunnel and you walk through a few caves and rooms. Once you go up 3 flights of stairs in dark, keep being brave you come to the bunker view. When come down do a left and follow the other stairs about 60+ that takes you to the escape route Or alternatively you can walk up the road to villa and cut through someone gate. Really interesting experience no one here but us. Would happily have contributed €5 to do this. Used my phone torch. Don't get lost
