Little gem of a museum. I didn’t care much about coins, but everything was presented in a clear and interesting manner. True works of art and technique. The building is marvellous, with extensive decorations on the floors, walls and ceilings. Wonderful patio in the garden.

We got tips from a local tour guide. We actually didn't go inside the museum but we had a nice coffee break in the garden, a cup of nice coffee, plus a piece of lemon cheese cake... Sitting under the shade in the beautiful garden after long walk in the heat, it's just lovely...

It is okay. The curation of the exhibits is lacking. I like how they have grouped the coins thematically, but also consistently providing dates would be nice. The LED lighting is again okay, but it is not hidden, ie bright in the eyes, and almost horizontally placed wrt the coins making some of the coins difficult to see. But what really is irritating is the explanation placards. The rooms are dark and the placards are mostly on see through bases and in strange colors. They are readable somewhat, but it is a chore. This is an easy fix. Why not fix it? Plus 6 euros is a bit expensive for a small museum, but they have to pay all the guards in every one of the small rooms. Plus when many of the reviews of a museum talk about the building more than the exhibits, that is a clue :)

A must see in Athens for any coin collector! Beautiful building, yard and interior.

One of the most underrated - yet very significant- attractions in Athens. Located right in the heart of Athens, steps away from Syntagma and Panepistimio metro stations, housed in a spectacular neoclassical mansion designed by architect Ernst Ziller for the famous archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, this museum is an oasis from the buzz of the city center. Hosting amazing money collections from the Greek and other civilisations from all historical periods, as well as fascinating contemporary exhibitions over time. After taking a nice tour in the museum, enjoy your coffee at the museum's beautiful garden cafe, feeling the energy of this place, in which used to gather the most famous and intellectual residents of Athens for its owner's eclectic parties of the 19th century. The museum's director, Dr. George Kakavas, is also a big fan of cultural events, organising many theatrical plays, music concerts and various performances in warm spring, summer and autumn evenings. Not to be missed!

Firstly, the coins are amazing and collection is extremely extensive. The cons: The staff and rude and could not be any less welcoming. Felt like I was being watched by prison guards. Also literally marched / escorted out 5minutes before closing because they were all so desperate to leave. Shocking. Also can't believe there were like 10 staff there (almost one in each room) just watching, no help or guidance offered.

Interesting experience, very rich collection of different types of coins from the area and around Europe. First floor focuses on antique coins, second on more modern varieties. If you have an hour or so to fill, it's a good option to learn more about minting coins and different varieties used by people through history.

It was ok. Small enough museum, with some interesting coins. Their signage needs to be rethought - hard yo read a clear plastic sign when it's positioned right in front of a window.
