This beautiful neoclassical building of Athens which today is the national History museum of Greece, also served as the building of the first parliament of the newly found Greek state after the 1821 revolution against the Ottoman empire. A beautiful place in the center of Athens to come visit and explore and learn more about our beautiful country, a must see from visitors abroad.

Seems to be a really overlooked museum. This museum picks up where the archaeology museum leaves off. Goes from Byzantine, to Ottoman and through WWII. The entire second floor is focused on the events leading up to and subsequently following the uprising of 1821. I think it's worth it if you have the interest. Takes about 1.5 hours.

A lot of information about Greek revolution and life in XIX century. Plenty of English translations.

A vivid presentation of modern Greek history through artwork and artefacts, with focus on the war of independence and the founding of the Modern Greek State.

The national history museum was interesting but most of the items displayed don't have English translation and there was not a lot of descriptions in the first floor but in the second it was better in that regard, especially with a interactive monitor to learn about the history of the country. The second floor was showing a large map showing the colonies back then but the Portuguese and French colonies where wrong missing some in Africa and Asia and no description of the Portuguese country.

Nice museum showing the history of the forming of Greece as a nation 200 years ago. Contains the old parliament. Don't expect anything ancient or very recent.

This Museum is housed in the former Hellenic Parliament building, which is impressive in itself. It covers Greek history from the Byzantine and Ottoman periods through to the Second World War, with the emphasis being on events leading up to, and following, Greek independence in 1821. Good value at EUR 3 and EUR 1.50 if over 65.
