The hotel has 2 stars - that's why it is great! Location, room and pool and garden are definitely worth three stars. And the operators are just hospitable - they love what they do (well)! Breakfast is good! Many greetings Irene and Ernst ??

Follow-up report on the stay in September / October 2020: First of all, you should consider that you are staying in the south of Crete. Everything is a little more original, more natural, "real". If you are looking for an all inclusive vacation, you should stay in the north. Here you need a rental car if you want to go on excursions, also inland and don't expect a fine sandy beach. Agia Galini is perfectly located as a starting point in the south and interesting destinations such as Matala. Red Beach, Triopetra, Comos Beach, gorges like Agios Antonios, Rouvas, Farango etc., as well as cities like Spili, Rethimno are easily accessible. Agia Galini offers everything a vacationer's heart is looking for: taverns, good restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors and nice shops, beautiful old town, harbor with boat trips and bus stop to Tymbaki or Mires to the great weekly markets. The Hotel Porto Galini is family-run and, thanks to the charming senior Nicos, quaint, typically Cretan. One speaks German :-) Simple but clean rooms, peace and quiet and, if required and ordered, also with a refrigerator or air conditioning. The breakfast is also simple but typically Cretan with sheep cheese, olives, tomatoes, honey yogurt, bread, jam, sausage and also cake. Everything has to be well defended against the many little kittens :-) Coffee is pretty good (you can feel German roots :-)) The complex is very well maintained and really nice. The pool to cool off and do a few laps was absolutely sufficient. The path to the beach and numerous taverns can be reached in less than 5 minutes and, above all, at ground level, which is otherwise rather rare in the village on the steep slope. If you are a little flexible here and don't expect luxury, which you shouldn't with 2 stars, you will feel right at home here.
