Amazing - must do hike in Hydra if you like walking. Regret going almost midday around noon but there’s a fair bit of shade along the path and if you go earlier in the day and bring water you’ll be ok. Knees and shoulders must be covered if you choose to go inside but they have complimentary robes to cover your knees if needed. The chapel is stunning and a must see if you make it all the way up. There’s also an opportunity to leave a few euros as a donation or buy some water, juice, or beer (all refrigerated), snacks, or religious mementos (bracelets etc) that you can buy. It’s tempting to do the walk on an overcast day because it’ll be cooler but the view on a sunny day is well worth it :) also be sure to stop at the other church about 1/3 of the way up - gorgeous view of the port.

Moderate 1h hike with nice views. Bring bug spray, we were followed by bees and flies the whole way up. A cute dog greeted us and followed us around the monastery. Nice little shop with cold drinks, products made by the monastery, and free cold water.

The short but steep way uphill can be challenging, especially in the summer heat, but you will be well rewarded for the effort once arrived! Take a bottle of water with you!

Rather rating a route, than a monastery itself. People, who said that it's an easy 45m walk - burn in hell. Prepare to be going up the hill for 2 hours, fighting a desire to go back. Going down is not easy as well. The views are great though, and most of the time you will be crawling in shade.

It's quite a hike to get up there, so be sure to bring plenty of water (you can refill your bottles at the monastery) and be sure to take plenty of breaks - not just to rest, but to also take in the amazing view. The climb is well worth it!

It's well worth a visit because of the fascinating view especially from the west side. The part of the monastry itself, that is open to visitors, is the chapel and the large yard around. The monks make a very good job of staying out of site. Right at the entrance, on the left side, there is a small room/shop, mostly with products made by the residents. There's a small fridge in which you can find beer and liquor (among other things). You can take what you want and according to the price of the product, leave the money in the cash box. If you like, you can also leave a donation. The climb itself is long but the whole way is paved., mostly with concrete and a part with stone. Most of the way is through a pine tree forest, so it's well shaded. You can do the way, with what ever foot wear you feel comfortable in. Coming down maybe a little uncomfortable with open sandals... Don't forget to take about a liter of water per person. At the monastery shop, there's a cooler to fill up your bottles if you need to.

Is it worth the hike up? Depends on if you like walking, takes about 1-2 hours depending on how many of the benches you sit on along the way. Path varies from good to horrible. Good views for almost the entire distance. Small honesty shop at the monastery with religous souvenirs and a fridge with some drinks. You will feel like you really deserve that beer when you get there after the climb. Box with free loukoumi (Turkish delight?).
