★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pretty nice old historical castle at the Chora of Astipalea. There is also a small Orhodox church with the traditional colors(white and blue) and architecture of many Greek islands. Amazing panoramic view of the island and the Aegean sea.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The castle structure is imposing on the whole town, probably it’s best visual feature. However the castle itself could be restored a little better

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is unique in its castle type, very different from the castles in the other islands of the South Aegean.
It is also called Astrolia Castle or Querini Castle.
It was built by the Querini Venetian family on the ancient citadel. It took its final form in the 15th century.
It is built with traditional local dark stone and is surrounded by white houses, the exterior walls of which create a real wall, with small windows for loopholes. With a strong fortress character to protect the inhabitants from pirates, it has visibility in the two natural harbors of the island.
Inside the castle are the famous churches with stone belfry, Panagia Kastro (1853) and Agios Georgios (1790).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A super impressive castle atop the hillside town as you enter the he bay. The castle is a ruin inside with two Bazantine churches inside the walls. The views are stunning and their are lots of little cafes in the town to chill and look at the sparkly boats in the harbour or bay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Castle of Guerini is located in Hora. The castle was constructed on the traces of the ancient acropolis from the Venetian official of the Duchy of Naxos, Giovanni Guerini, in 1413. The architecture of the castle is one of the most impressive of the area of the Aegean as it has only one entrance on the southwest side. The surrounding defensive wall of the castle speads around the reinforced house walls, known as xokastra, and form a protective ring. However, the majority of the houses in the area of the castle have been collapsed owing to the massive earthquake of 1956. Inside the castle, one can visit the beautiful church of Panagia Kastriani, the church of Agios Georgios and the Tower of Saray. The castle of Guerini offers panoramic views of the surrounding areas and it.
