To be honest, the castle by itself is underwhelming. There are only ruins without any explanation nor introduction. But I would still visit it again, simply because of the walk from Sami center to the top is too beautiful. The colorful town, the vividly blue Ionic sea, the huge mountain backdrop. Everything just blends together and creates an unforgiveable, almost dream-like scenery. This is undoubtedly one of the spots one shouldn’t skip when visiting the island.

One hell of a walk to find nearly no ruins :) Beautiful place and even if exhausting, worth a trip. Views on the way far better than the ruins. Take a "wilder" shore route.

Reaching the highest point of the frontier requires around 40’ hiking from Assos. Once you get there the scenery is indescribable. Beautiful, unbelievable view! Just stand still and be surrounded by the scenic. I recommend this all year long. It has a different feeling from morning to evening.

Beautiful scenic walk. Castle grounds are huge but there is not much left. Worth it for the walk.

Awesome view along the path to the castle. Late evening is the best time to visit in the summer to avoid extreme heat. Tip: there is a yellow sign at some point follow the path to the left to ascend to the castle (800 m) you will have a great view to the ocean and you can see Myrtos as well. Once you are in the castle follow the paved road to descend.

It’s a nice walk up. The view on Assos is amazing. It’s getting more beautiful with every step that you take. The castle it self is nice to see.

Great hour long walk with some amazing views. Very well paved routes all the way to the top. You could easily get away with flip flops

The views from the top are great and it is free entry. This is where the positives stop. It is a looooong walk up there when it is +30 outside. At the top there is not much left standing, just the occasional wall. Everything is overgrown with trees over the years. The path inside the "castle" is quite rough so better wear trainers. No signs or information anywhere. There is a museum but I was too tired to look inside. You might see some goats though.
